Restoring the Enamel to Your Teeth to Avoid Sensitivity

Posted on 10/15/2016 by Brandon Cooley
A woman suffering from sensitive teeth caused by weak enamel.
When your enamel begins to wear down from your teeth, it can cause a lot of sensitivity to the foods and drinks you consume each day. You could end up struggling to eat anything hot or cold, or you could have problems eating foods that are salty, bitter, or sweet. If you notice that you end up with sore teeth after meals or snacks, it may be time to get in and have your mouth checked out.

When Enamel Levels Go Down, You Need to Take Steps to Fix It

If your dentist has confirmed that your enamel is getting low on some areas of your teeth, you are going to have to do a few things. First, you will need to talk with your dentist about performing a fluoride treatment on your teeth to help restore some of the enamel.

Next, you are going to have to ensure that each item you use at home also has extra fluoride in it to help. This should include your toothpaste, mouthwash, and even the water you drink. If you are not sure about your water, contact your municipality and find out if it is added to the water before it comes into your home. If the answer is no, then make sure the water you drink each day is bottled with extra fluoride added.

Your dentist will want to keep a close eye on how sensitive your teeth are, and the steps that are being done to help remedy the situation. If the extra fluoride doesn't help your sensitive teeth, then your dentist may have to go as far as to seal your teeth to help protect the dentin from the foods and drinks you consume. This will help you be able to eat normally, and keep the levels of pain to a minimum.

Please contact us if you have any questions about your sensitive teeth.
