Porcelain inlays and onlays are tooth colored fillings that can be placed on back teeth to repair mild decay or damage. They are matched exactly to the color of your surrounding teeth and offer an aesthetically pleasing, safe alternative to traditional amalgam fillings.
Porcelain Dental Inlays
Inlays are used to repair teeth that have decay within the indented surfaces at the top. To ensure a proper match to your adjacent teeth, they are placed over two office visits. During your first visit, Kenmore cosmetic dentists Dr. Aaron Cooley and Dr. Brandon Cooley will prepare your tooth for your porcelain filling and take an impression of your tooth. This impression will be sent to our dental lab so that an exact color match can be achieved. A temporary inlay will be placed on the tooth in the interim.
When your new inlay arrives at our office, you will come back in to have your permanent inlay placed. This porcelain filling is adhered directly to your tooth, preventing further decay while also enhancing the structural stability of your tooth.
Porcelain Dental Onlays
When your tooth decay extends to more than one cusp, Dr. Aaron and Dr. Brandon can use porcelain onlays to repair the damage. Following the same procedure as inlays, your onlays will take two office visits.
Dental porcelain fillings provide several advantages over traditional metallic fillings. It is entirely stable and will not fall out. Furthermore, porcelain inlays and onlays are attached to your tooth, making the tooth itself stronger. In addition, there is nothing toxic or allergenic in porcelain, making it a safe alternative for every member of your household.
